From the home screen or app drawer

Press and hold the app icon. Choose Uninstall from the menu, or drag the icon to the Uninstall area at the top of the screen. Confirm with OK.

From Settings

Go to Settings > Apps, choose the app and press Uninstall. This works for apps you can't find on the home screen.

From Google Play

Press your profile picture, then Manage apps & device > Manage. Tick several apps and press the bin icon to remove them together. Sort by size to find the biggest ones.

Apps that won't uninstall

Pre-installed apps often only show Disable. Disabling stops the app from running and hides it, and you can enable it again later. It also removes updates, returning the app to its factory version, so it uses less space.

If the Uninstall button is greyed out on an app you installed yourself, the app may have device admin access. Remove that under Settings > Security > Device admin apps first. Some security and work apps use this legitimately.

What happens to your data

Uninstalling deletes the app's local data. Data stored in an account, such as notes in Google Keep, stays in that account and returns when you reinstall and sign in. Back up anything that only lives on the phone first.
